Based on the success of BC WorkInfoNET's Surfing for Work in BC, Alberta Learning Information Service commissioned an online work search tutorial designed for the Alberta market. The development team included representatives of Margaux Finlayson Writing and Editing, CareerLife Consulting, BC WorkInfoNET, Bayleaf Software and ALIS. Building on the Surfing for Work in BC design, we researched information and resources for Albertans. We also added new content on online work search and emerging trends. Margaux provided the bulk of the research and wrote and edited the Alberta custom text and all new sections. This link will take you to Future Trends for Job Seekers, a new section on electronic portfolios, video resumes and video interviews.
This project involved a redesign of an existing brochure, creating a user-friendly structure for presenting self-assessment, career, work trends, learning and job search resources. The goal was to expand the user group from career practitioners to include the general public and youth in particular. Margaux researched available resources and wrote and edited descriptions to tight space restrictions. Organizational skills and collaboration with the client and owners of about 40 resources were key to the success of the project.
In 1996, working in partnership with KnowledgeQuest Associates, a Web design firm, Margaux created an extensive educational and promotional website for her career counselling business. The designer brought project management, site design and technical skills to the project. Margaux created all content for the site and collaborated on the design. The Careerpath Adventures site has been recognized in publications such as Get Wired, You're Hired by Mark Swartz (1998) and Top 100 Internet Sites for Learning and Employment, published by the Government of Canada Youth Employment Strategy (2001).
The University Club of Victoria was seeking a new identity to reflect their unique market position. Piktografik, a graphic design firm, was contracted to complete the project. As part of Piktografik's team, Margaux collaborated with a graphic designer/project leader, illustrator and business consultant to explore the client's audience and direction. Her role was to develop ten taglines for consideration along with the designers' visual identities. The snappy, rhythmic tagline - Entertain, Engage, Enjoy - evokes a sociable, welcoming environment. Married with the designers' lively art nouveau image, the tagline promotes use of the club by both traditional and new members.
